Context
EukaPay is a crypto payments startup in the US and Canada that enables businesses to accept mobile crypto payments at the point of sale, with settlements in local currencies. As the sole product designer, I prototyped EukaPay’s web and mobile experiences and prepared the brand and product for a successful launch on the App Store and Google Play.
How I added value
I spearheaded the design of EukaPay Maps, a merchant directory showcasing businesses across Canada that accept crypto at point of sale. My designs have shipped and EukaPay uses EukaPay Maps as a sales tool by showcasing current merchant partners in a visually engaging and interactive way.
Defining the problem
User Research
When conducting user interviews with crypto consumers in Toronto, Canada, one interviewee said, "I have crypto and want to spend it in-person, but I don't know how to easily find businesses that accept it. It takes me a while to search up who accepts crypto in the city".
Speaking with crypto consumers directly revealed that there are barriers to discovering businesses that accept crypto payments. This problem is an opportunity for Eukapay because the easier it is for consumers to discover where they can spend crypto, the more storefronts will want to accept crypto at point of sale.

Crypto Consumer Pain Points
For people that want to find a particular item to purchase with crypto, a simple Google search does not cut it. I distilled the experiences of crypto consumers into three main pain points to address:

Given these pain points, how might we design a seamless and customizable experience that helps crypto consumers easily discover, evaluate, and connect with merchants that accept cryptocurrency?
Goal
Create a user-friendly and customizable discovery tool that simplifies the crypto shopping experience for consumers, while helping EukaPay drive merchant visibility, engagement, and conversion.
MVP Scope
Cross functional collaboration
As the project leader and sole product designer, I met with the product manager and developers to define goals for MVP and identify how to integrate the merchant directory into current products.

Design
Mobile User Flow (mid-fidelity preview)
Mobile designs were particularly important because EukaPay had just launched in the App Store. Below is a mid-fidelity user flow of the merchant filtering function on mobile to address crypto consumer pain points.

Key Learnings
Feedback is fuel and should be frequent
I’ve learned the value of regularly updating my team on design decisions. Sharing early and often helps us build on each other’s ideas, stay aligned, and continuously improve the product.
Designing for mobile is not a 1:1 translation
Not every desktop feature works well on mobile—and that’s okay. I enjoyed reimagining elements specifically for mobile screens, focusing on what truly makes sense for smaller, touch-based experiences. For example, EukaPay Map's grid view is only available on desktop, while mobile has a more compact list view for browsing.
